ThinkGut
Personalized prediction of cognition through the human microbiota
ThinkGut is a research project led by the Institut d’Investigació Biomèdica de Girona Dr. Josep Trueta (IDIBGI) in association with the Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM) and the SME Enterosys SAS., which studies the role of intestinal microbiota in neurocognitive disorders associated with obesity and aging.
Project
INTERREG POCTEFA
The ThinkGut project is being developed with the help of POCTEFA-2014-2020 (The Cooperation Programme INTERREG V-A Spain-France-Andorra), a European financial support program that aims to promote territorial cooperation and sustainable development in the cross-border area between Spain, France and Andorra. The main objectives of POCTEFA are to contribute to decreasing the differences in the development of the territories, achieving, through the union of forces, sustainable development of the Pyrenees border region, as well as its economic and social integration and cohesion. POCTEFA is, in short, a program that makes use of European funds to help improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the area.
Dynamize innovation
and competitiveness
ThinkGut is part of the number one priority of the five strategic axes in which the INTERREG POCTEFA programs are organized: to dynamize innovation and competitiveness. Specifically, within axis 1, ThinkGut focuses on the investment priority P1B and on its specific objective number 1 (SO1), where it is established as a priority to strengthen cooperation between the different actors in the territory on both sides of the border in terms of R+D+i.
Following this axis, its investment priority (P1B) and the specific objective in which ThinkGut is framed (SO1), two indicators are established that serve to measure the scope of the expected results. The first indicator is the achievement of agreements between companies and research centres that result in the development of marketable products. The second one focuses on the fact that there are companies that benefit from the innovative tools developed in the project.
To meet these priorities and fulfil its specific objective, the ThinkGut project has created a cross-border consortium coordinated by the IDIBGI research centre, which also includes the INSERM research institute and the biotechnology company, specialized in high-quality preclinical evaluation services, Enterosys SAS.
European Regional Development Fund
The ThinkGut project, co-financed at 65% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Interreg V-A Spain-France-Andorra Programme (POCTEFA 2014-2020), has a total budget of 1.3 million euros.
